Research Description:
As an Extension specialist, Dr. Burney focuses on measuring impacts of
nutrition and food safety education delivered through Extension community
education programs. Some of these programs include: The Expanded Food and
Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), a nutrition education program for low
income families with children; The Tennessee Nutrition Consumer Education
Program (TNCEP), a nutrition education program for participants in the Food
Stamp Program; Safe Food for Tennessee, a food safety program for consumers
across the lifecyle, especially vulnerable populations at risk for
foodborne illness; Power U, a nutrition and physical activity program for
4th graders; Healthy Steps, a nutrition and physical activity program for
preschool children; and Food Safety in the Classroom, a food safety program
for 7th graders.
