Proceedings: Dr. Saltos' presentation

UT Obesity Research Center is sponsoring a half day workshop on USDA funding opportunities for research and integrated programs in the areas of nutrition, obesity, food science and food safety. The workshop will be presented July 17 morning, 2008 (7:30 AM to 12:30 PM) by Dr. Etta A. Saltos (National Program Leader for Human Nutrition, USDA CSREES National Research Initiative), who will provide an overview of the NRI programs in general and detailed information about the areas specified above. We are also planning break-out discussion sessions and participation of some UT faculty currently funded by USDA-NRI, who will provide tips for successful USDA grant applications.

While these sessions will primarily cover nutrition/obesity, food science and food safety programs; the overview session should provide useful information relevant to other USDA –NRI programs. Those interested in having Dr. Saltos bring or mail information relevant to their programs of interest should notify Naima Moustaid-Moussa, UTORC Co-Director (moustaid@utk.edu).

Please share this information with other interested colleagues here at UT and in the southeastern region. More details will be forthcoming, but please reserve this date and register via the on-line system if you plan to attend the workshop so that we can plan accordingly.

The workshop will be held at the University of Tennessee Plant BioTech Building room 156/157 located on the Ag Campus in Knoxville, Tennessee.
